CAMPUS CREATORS
Creator Disclosure Guide
Last updated: September 2026
This guide is meant to be practical and easy to understand. It is not legal advice. When in doubt, creators should follow the current FTC Endorsement Guides and the disclosure tools and policies of each platform they use.
Why disclosure matters
If you received a free product, earn commission, or are paid to talk about Wisconsin Soap Company, that connection is something your audience deserves to know. Disclosure is simply being honest about relationships that could affect how people view your recommendation.
Instagram Story
Place a visible disclosure directly on the Story itself — for example a clear text sticker that stays on screen long enough to read, such as “Gifted by Wisconsin Soap Company” or “Ad.” Do not rely only on a small tag hidden in a corner or on a hashtag in a separate frame.
Instagram Reel / TikTok
Include a clear disclosure in the video itself and in the caption where appropriate. A short on-screen label such as “Paid partnership with Wisconsin Soap Company” or “Ad” works well. If you earn commission from a link, say so in the caption, for example “I earn commission from purchases through my link.”
Gifted product
Free product is still a material connection. Even if you were not paid, receiving a free product is something you should disclose, such as “Gifted by Wisconsin Soap Company.”
Commission link or code
If you earn commission when people shop through your link or code, that earning relationship should be disclosed clearly. A simple line like “I earn commission from purchases through my link” is enough. A discount code alone is not always enough to disclose a commission relationship.
Quick checklist
- BE CLEAR
- BE EASY TO NOTICE
- DISCLOSE THE RELATIONSHIP
- DON’T HIDE IT IN A LONG HASHTAG LIST
- DON’T MAKE CLAIMS YOU CAN’T SUPPORT
Follow the rules that apply to you
Creators should follow the current FTC Endorsement Guides and the platform-specific disclosure tools and policies for each app they use. This guide is a starting point, not a replacement for those requirements.
